Bear killed a mining company worker in Alaska

Timberline drilling officer Anthony David Montoya was killed yesterday in a bear attack on Admiralty Island, about 18 miles south of Juneau.

Montoya's Hecla Greens Creek Mine produces silver, zinc, lead and gold. The mine is 100% owned and operated by Hecla Mining.

The company said the incident took place at a remote drilling site on the surface of the mine, which can only be accessed by helicopter.

Mine safety personnel work with state and federal authorities to investigate the situation.
