According to Alexei Miller, General Director of Gazprom, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has already provided 70% of the financing, which is in line with the schedule. However, the head of the Russian giant did not say how much the construction of the gas pipeline would cost. According to experts, the investment will cost between 8 and 10 billion euros. The pipeline is already under construction, although Miller admits there are still "well-known" legal issues.
The Russians have not yet received, among others, permission to build the controversial pipe from the Danes.
Russian Gazprom's partners in Nord Stream 2 are five Western energy companies: Austrian OMV, German BASF-Wintershall and Uniper (spun off from E.On), French Engie and British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell.
The gas pipeline is highly controversial. The project will be able to supply 55 billion cubic meters of gas to Germany annually. Due to the bypass of the current transit countries, there are fears that the pipeline may become an element of pressure from Russia on a certain part of Europe. Moreover, some experts believe that the construction of the gas pipeline has no economic justification.
