ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih carries out ecological reconstruction

PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" this year will continue to implement the project to modernize the sinter shop No. 2. The total cost of the investment project is more than $ 150 million.

Now, out of six sintering machines in the workshop, two have been modernized: 5 and 6 - investments in them amounted to over $ 70 million. The renewal of the remaining four sintering machines will be implemented in the period 2019–2020. Next year, work will begin on sintering machine No. 4.

This year the company continues to reconstruct return flows for all six sintering machines. This is a complex of galleries, reloading hubs with utility systems - a unified system for transporting spillage, which is formed during screening or screening of fine agglomerate fractions unsuitable for blast-furnace production. Therefore, the fines are returned on conveyors and added to the fresh charge. At the same time, it is extinguished with water using special drums, as a result of which a steam-dust mixture is formed. Reconstruction will eliminate this source of emissions. Instead of outdated extinguishing drums, plate conveyors will be installed, thanks to which it is possible to transport the hot fraction to the return bins without extinguishing. The new technology, in addition to the environmental effect, will also make it possible to save energy resources - the fine fraction in the form of a hot return will be mixed with the charge, which means that less gas is needed to heat it up.

In addition, within the framework of the investment project, the implementation of a new workshop aspiration continues - the construction of three bag filters and three electrostatic precipitators for dust removal. Now the reconstruction of the first part of the complex is nearing completion - two aspiration units have been built and put into operation, the launch of the third is planned by the end of this year. It is planned to complete all work on three installations at the end of May 2019. These works will improve the working conditions of employees, reduce emissions and reduce the man-made load on the city and the region.

The project for the reconstruction of sinter shop No. 2 provides for a significant reduction in atmospheric emissions - by 500 tons for each sinter machine. Thus, after the implementation of this investment project, the total reduction in emissions will be about 3,000 tons per year.
