World steel production from 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 151.7 million tonnes in September 2018, up 4.4% from September 2017.
Global steel production was 1,347.0 Mt (1.3 Bt) in the first nine months of 2018, up 4.7% year-on-year.
Asia produced 946.8 million tonnes of steel, 5.5% more than in the first nine months of 2017. The European Union (EU) produced 128 million tonnes of steel in the first nine months of 2018, up 1.3% over the same period in 2017. North American steel production in the first nine months of 2018 was 89.7 million tonnes, up 3.4% from the first nine months of 2017. The CIS smelted 76.2 million tonnes of steel in the first nine months of 2018, up 1.8% over the same period in 2017.
Steel production in China in September 2018 amounted to 80.8 million tons, which is 7.5% more than in September 2017. In September 2018, Japan produced 8.4 million tonnes of steel, 2.4% less than in September 2017.
In the EU, France produced 1.3 million tonnes of steel in September 2018, increasing output by 1.4% compared to September 2017. Italy's steel production in September 2018 was 2.2 million tonnes, down 0.8%, while Spain produced 1.3 million tonnes in September 2018, increasing output by 5.1% in 2017.
Steel production in Turkey in September 2018 amounted to 2.8 million tons, which is 5.9% more than in September 2017.
The United States produced 7.3 million tonnes of crude steel in September 2018, an increase of 9.0% year-on-year, while steel production in Brazil rose 2.5% to 3.0 million tonnes over the period. ...
