The latest production statistics released by the World Steel Association (wordsteel) show a significant jump in crude steel production by Asian countries during September this year.
In September 18th, Asian crude steel production was 107.841 million tonnes, up 5.9% over the same period last year. In September 2017, production in the region was only 101.813 million tonnes. Total production for the first three quarters of this year increased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 946.820 million tons.
The leading manufacturer, China, reported a 7.5% increase in production. During the month, the country accounted for almost 75% of the total regional production. The volume of production in China amounted to 80.845 million tons. India continues to be the second largest regional producer with an output of 8.520 million tonnes. Japanese production totaled 8.418 million tonnes, a slight decrease of 2.4% from the previous year. The top three manufacturers accounted for over 90% of total monthly production throughout the Asia region.
Steel production in other countries: South Korea (5.885 million tons), Taiwan (1.925 million tons), Vietnam (1.460 million tons), Pakistan (420,000 tons) and Thailand (400,000 tons). Vietnamese output rose by almost 55%.
