Steel production in India rose 2.1% to reach 8.520 million tonnes in September 2018, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) said in a report, while the country produced 8,345 tonnes of steel in the same month last year.
According to the report, production in India in January-September 2018 was 6.1% higher at 79.660 million tonnes versus 75.048 million tonnes during the corresponding period in 2017. Japan reported a 2.4% cut in September production of 8.418 million tonnes in September 2018, up from 8.626 tonnes in the same month last year.
In the first nine months of 2018, steel production in Japan showed a slight increase of 0.4% to 78.615 million tons from 78.266 million tons last year. China maintained its position as the world leader in steel production over the past month and January-September 2018.
In September, China produced 80,845 tons of steel against 75,999 tons, an increase of 7.5 percent. In January-September 2018, it produced 699.424 thousand tons of steel, which is 6.1% more compared to 659.425 thousand tons produced in the same period last year.
The U.S. produced 7.3 tonnes of crude steel in September 2018, up 9 percent from the same month last year.
