PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih presented an eco-monitoring system at Waste Air & Gas Management 2018

Within the framework of the international exhibition of equipment and technologies for cleaning urban and industrial emissions, dust and gas treatment - Waste Air & Gas Management 2018 - Director of the Environmental Protection Department of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih PJSC Liana Maksimenko shared her experience of implementing an environmental monitoring system at the enterprise.

It covers 5 main monitoring subsystems:
atmospheric air;
industrial emissions from stationary emission sources;
Wastewater;
waste;
soil.

Back in 2014, the company opened three air quality control posts in the zone of influence of metallurgical, coke-chemical and mining industries. They are equipped with modern gas analyzers for measuring carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and dust meters - innovative devices for measuring dust concentration in Ukraine. Since May 2017, these posts have been automatically posted on the company's website. In 2018, during the scheduled repair and calibration of the station instruments, new software was purchased and installed. After the completion of the work, data from the posts will be sent online to the website of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, to the city module Ecomonitoring and to the website for monitoring the environmental situation in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Monitoring of industrial emissions from the sources of the enterprise is also carried out. Thanks to new investment projects, devices have been installed at 27 emission sources. These data, along with technological data, are sent to the operators of posts in the shops for analysis and response. The company plans to introduce local environmental monitoring systems in the implementation of investment projects for the reconstruction of converters No. 1–3, sintering machines No. 1–3 of the second sinter shop, rotary kilns and lime kilns No. 1–5, blast furnace No. 9 and others.

In addition, an automated wastewater monitoring system is being implemented at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Ten years ago, three automated water metering stations were introduced to account for the volume of wastewater. Data from them is transmitted online. In 2017–2018, continuous automatic monitoring is carried out at two control posts for seven indicators: pH (hydrogen weight), chlorides, iron, oil products, suspended solids, temperature and volume. The posts are equipped with analytical equipment from leading world manufacturers - Hach Lange (Germany), Seibold Composer (Austria), SYSTEA (Italy), Sontek (USA). Commissioning and acceptance tests have already been carried out.
