The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced the finalists for the SteelChallenge-13 World Championship. The winners were selected from a regional championship held on November 28, 2018, in which about 1,900 participants from 48 countries took part.
The annual competition is held to inspire and motivate students and steel professionals to spearhead efforts to create a more innovative and sustainable steel industry.
Finalists from the "Students" category are: View Vengust, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Dylan da Silva Santos, Federal University to Ceara, Brazil; Yu-En Chang, National Chung Xing University, Taiwan, China; Wei Zhang, Chongqing University of Science and Technology, China and Shao-Wei Lu, National Chung Xing University, Taiwan, China.
Meanwhile, the regional champions who made it to the final in the Industry category: Tom Nevel, Tata Steel Europe, The Netherlands; Marcelo Ricardo de Sousa Angelotto, Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecem, Brazil; Kim Yongtai, POSCO, South Korea; Sanfeng Jin and Yijie Han from HBIS Group Co., Ltd, China.
Finalists will now be invited to compete for the World Championship in Madrid, Spain on April 16, 2019. All finalists will be awarded certificates, cash prizes and an iPad in addition to travel expenses. The World Championship winners in both categories will be awarded a World Champion Certificate, an additional cash prize and a SteelChallenge trophy.
