PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" took part in the all-Ukrainian forum of industrial cities Kryvyi Rih GREEN Strategy, which brought together environmental activists, representatives of enterprises and public associations, city and regional officials, speakers from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, independent scientists, experts , as well as specialists from public research institutes. The focus is on three main topics: the application of the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment, environmental monitoring and the problem of mine waters in the region.
The system of environmental monitoring at the forum was presented by the head of the laboratory for the protection of atmospheric air of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" Irina Oleinik. Thus, the enterprise has implemented an automated wastewater monitoring subsystem. Control over the quality of atmospheric air at the border of the sanitary protection zone of the plant is carried out using three automated posts. Since September 2013, information has been posted on the company's website on a monthly basis, since the beginning of 2016 - on a daily information board, and since May 2017 - it has been transmitted to the website of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih PJSC online.
This year, along with the scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, repair and calibration of the instruments of automated posts, the company purchased and installed new licensed software, as well as new client software. It allows, from the end of October this year, to carry out calculations of average daily values in automatic mode and transfer them to all interested parties.
In addition, to date, 27 emission sources are equipped with monitoring devices in the converter shop, blast furnaces, sintering machines, coke oven batteries, peak boiler house, heating furnace of the rolling shop, ore processing plants and the mine administration. A pilot project was launched to combine local systems into a single integrated monitoring system. The task is difficult, it will take a lot of time, money and effort, but it can be done.
At the Kryvyi Rih GREEN Strategy platform, they also discussed one of the most difficult environmental topics for the region - the problem of mine waters. It does not have a simple solution, it requires a comprehensive analysis from all points of view - this is both the use of the most advanced technologies and reasonable costs for the implementation of a global project for the region. It is obvious that business alone cannot pull this off: today's cost estimates are striking in their scale, amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. At the panel discussion Alexander Kavitsky, Director of the Mining Department of the Mining Department of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, presented his vision of this problem, which does not concern the same
