Two days of strikes began at the former Ilva plant in Taranto, now ArcelorMittal Italia.
The strike began on Monday evening and will last 32 hours until December 19. ArcelorMittal is accused by trade unions of not complying with an agreement with the Italian government and trade unions at the time of the Ilva purchase. Workers will also go on strike at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy (Mize) in Rome on December 18.
According to the source, ArcelorMittal is cutting Ilva's workforce and replacing former workers with contractors, taking over some of the plant's operations. Despite the demand from the leadership, the unions did not receive a response.
