World stainless steel production increased significantly during the first nine months of this year. The latest figures released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) show a 10% annual increase in production in the stainless steel smelter.
Production for the initial nine-month period of 2018 was 39.1 million metric tons, up 10% over the previous year. In January-September 1917, production amounted to only 35.535 million tons.
According to the ISSF, production in China was 20.747 million tons, accounting for more than 53% of world production. Over the previous year, Chinese production grew 8.5% from 19.122 million tons. The Asian region, excluding China, reported a 4.9% increase in production to 6.212 million metric tons.
European stainless steel production also posted a slight increase of 1.6%. Aggregate production in Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and Indonesia grew by more than 52%. Meanwhile, U.S. production is up 4%
