Steel production of the EU-28 countries increased slightly in November this year. The latest production statistics released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicate domestic production for the month was 14.140 million tonnes. This is marginally 1.2% higher when compared to the region's production of 13.967 million tonnes in the same month a year earlier. Meanwhile, cumulative production during the initial eleven-month period of the year showed a nominal decline of almost 0.5% year on year.
Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Poland entered the top five steel producing countries in the EU-28 region in November. Aggregate production in the above five countries amounted to 9.095 million tonnes, which is more than 64% of the total regional production. Germany topped the list with total steel production of 3.450 million tonnes in a month. Production in Germany fell by almost 3% over the previous year. Italy also reported a slight decrease in steel production during the month. Italian production was 2.186 million tonnes, a slight decline of 1.0% year on year. Meanwhile, France recorded a 13% increase in production, which in November amounted to 1.352 million tons. Production in Spain and Poland was 1.302 million tonnes and 805 thousand tonnes, respectively.
European countries produced 154.421 million tons of steel in the period up to November this year. Production in Greece rose the most, posting a 9.6% year-on-year increase, while Austrian production fell significantly more than 16% year on year.
