Production and consumption of rolled metal in Ukraine in 2018

For 12 months of 2018, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 18.36 million tons of rolled metal (100.2% compared to the same period in 2017, taking into account the activity in January-February 2017 of capacities on tubing, or 103% without taking them into account), of which about 14.42 million tons, or 78.5%. In the same period in 2017, the share of exports amounted to 79.6% (14.59 million tons with a total production of 18.33 million tons of rolled metal).

The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for 12 months of 2018 accounted for 43.64%, which is commensurate with the indicator for the period January-December 2017 (43.14%). The share of flat products in export deliveries for 12 months is slightly higher than the indicator for the same period in 2017 (34.89% and 33.10%, respectively), and the share of long products in supplies to foreign markets for 12 months of 2018 is noticeably lower than for the same period. period of 2017 (respectively, 21.47% and 23.76%).

In the domestic market, 5,388 thousand tons of rolled metal were supplied, of which 1,442 thousand tons, or 26.8%, were imported. For the same period in 2017, the domestic market consumed 5,047 thousand tons of rolled metal, of which 1302 thousand tons, or 25.8%, were imported. Thus, over the 12 months of 2018, the growth in consumption of rolled metal in the domestic market amounted to 6.76% compared to January-December 2017, with an outstripping growth in the import component (+ 10.75%).

The structure of imports for 12 months of 2018 is characterized by a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (51.05% and 45.90%, respectively), although in the same period of 2017 this dominance was much more significant - 55.31% versus 43.00% ...

The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products for 12 months of 2018 are the countries of the European Union (34.2%), Africa (16.3%) and other European countries, including Turkey (12.8%).

Among metallurgical importers for 12 months of 2018, the CIS ranks first (52.2%), Asian countries ranked second (20.6%), and the European Union ranks third (17.5%).
