The new research project focuses on the production of waste-free iron and steel and smart steel processing.
The Liberty Steel Group has announced that it will play a key role in a recently announced £ 35 million research network aimed at transforming the UK steel sector. The company will provide collaboration between university researchers and UK steelmakers to transform the entire UK steel supply chain.
The network, called SUSTAIN, is led by researchers from Swansea University and a partner with the Universities of Sheffield and Warwick. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council will make the necessary investments in the program. Steel producers across the UK, as well as representatives from the entire manufacturing sector, will be part of a coordinated research initiative.
The work will focus on the production of waste-free iron and steel and smart steel processing. His work is aimed at making the entire supply chain cleaner, greener, smarter and more responsive to changing customer needs. It aims to increase the productivity of the metals sector by 15%, increase industrial jobs to 35,000, and double the gross value added (GVA) of a steel producer by 2030.
Simon Pike, CTO of Liberty, expressed pride in participating in a leading research program that will undoubtedly make Britain a leader in the global steel industry. According to him, this initiative is in good agreement with the concept of the company GREENSTEEL. Liberty looks forward to working with leading scientists and engineers across the country to make SUSTAIN a success, he added.
