On Friday, March 1, in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a draft resolution No. 9474-P1 was registered on the abolition of the adopted law of February 28, 2019 on increasing the export duty on scrap metal to 58 euros per ton.
The author is the people's deputy Alexander Opanasenko. In an explanatory note, he emphasizes that this law is not lawful:
"This draft law violates the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens, since illegal economic preferences are provided to large steel producers, at the expense of households and other market participants, who will lose profits from a decrease in the price of scrap metal."
The MP calculated that the losses from maintaining the duty level of 58 euros /ton will amount to 232 million euros, which, thus, will upset the balance of interests of all market participants and distort economic relations.
