Brazil has postponed an anti-dumping investigation report on imports of carbon steel plates from China, Ukraine, South Africa and South Korea for up to 2 months from 2 August. This is stated in the document of the local secretariat of foreign trade of the Ministry of Industry of Brazil (Secex /MDIC.
Brazilian authorities note that there is sufficient evidence of damage to domestic production if the duties on said products have not been extended. Duties for carbon steel sheets with a thickness of more than 4.75 mm and a width of more than 600 mm, classified according to the Brazilian Nomenclatura Comum do MERCOSUL (NCM) code, are 7208.51.00 and 7208.52.00.
Initially, the investigation was launched at the request of the local manufacturer Usiminas.
The measures were first introduced in October 2013. According to the decision, Brazil applied duties on Chinese-made heavy slabs of US $ 211.56 /ton, while the duty on imports of Ukrainian origin was US $ 261.79 /ton. Tariffs for slabs from South Africa and South Korea were $ 166.63 /t and $ 135.84 /t, respectively.
