The production of crude steel by the countries of the world, which submitted the report of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), increased significantly in February this year. Monthly production data suggest that the output of the 64 reporting countries to the association is 4.1% higher than the previous year. These countries accounted for almost 99% of all global steel production in 2017.
World crude steel production in February this year was 137.274 million tonnes, up from 131.916 million tonnes in February 2018.
China remains the world leader in crude steel production with an output of 70.988 million tonnes. The country accounts for almost 52% of world steel production.
The total production of crude steel in the first two months of this year amounted to 287.609 million tons. This is 3.8% higher than the production of 277.191 million tonnes during the corresponding two-month period in 2018.
