Steel Authority of India Ltd said Wednesday that it produced 16.3 million tonnes of crude steel for the current fiscal year ended March 31, the best steel sales in the company's history.
Total steel shipments from SAIL were the highest ever at 14.86 million tonnes during fiscal 2019 due to a special logistics facility recently created by SAIL, the company said.
These efforts resulted in an 8% increase in steel production over the corresponding period last year for the largest steel producer in the country.
Nearly all of the company's major segments - Hot Metal, Crude Steel, Salable Steel and Sales - grew by 10%, 8%, 14% and 13%, respectively.
This year SAIL had the highest production ever of 985,000 tonnes of top quality rails. Rail production picked up steam in the second half of fiscal 2019 with production of 566,000 tonnes and 35% higher than in the first six months.
In line with these improved figures, the company managed to improve its turnover by 16%, which is currently Rs 66,100.
SAIL Chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary praised the efforts of his employees, but felt that the task for the next year is much more difficult, as the plan is to increase crude steel production by 21% and a similar increase in sales to cope with rapidly growing domestic steel consumption. supported by increased demand from infrastructure and construction segments.
“The whole organization is fully prepared to reach new heights in fiscal 20,” he added.
