The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry reported that coal production in Ukraine in the first quarter of this year decreased by 7.1% to 7.765 million tons.
In March, Ukraine produced 2.664 million tons of coal, which is 11.9% less than last year.
In the first quarter, steam coal production fell 3.1% to 6.537 million tonnes, while coking coal production fell 24% to 1.227 million tonnes.
Coal production in government-controlled areas of the Donetsk region in the first quarter decreased by 14% to 2.524 million tons, while production in the Luhansk region decreased by 23.7% to 111,700 tons.
In other regions, coal production decreased: in the Dnipropetrovsk region by 2% to 4.74 million tons, in the Lvov region by 8.6% to 374,300 tons, and production in Volyn fell by 52.2% to 14,300 tons.
The state mines produced 955,500 tons of coal this quarter, down 19.4% from the same period last year.
According to the State Fiscal Service, Ukraine imported 5.25 million tons of thermal coal and anthracite in the amount of $ 740 million during the quarter, which is 8.5% lower than the same period last year.
According to the Fiscal Service, Ukraine received 64.4% of total coal imports from Russia, 28.7% from the United States and 4.2% from Kazakhstan.
In 2018, Ukraine produced 33.29 million tons of coal, which is 4.7% less than in 2017.
