ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has updated the automation system at wire rod mill No. 6

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has completed the modernization of the automated control system at the wire rod mill-250 /150-6 in the third rolling shop. At this mill, the company produces rebar and wire rod in coils with a diameter of 5.5 to 32 mm. Initially, the project was estimated at UAH 48 million, but in fact the costs amounted to about UAH 37 million - the company managed to save 11 million.

The mill has updated the Siemens automation system SIMATIC, which provides automatic monitoring of the mechanisms and systems of the wire rod production line and alarms (in case of stop or danger). Now more modern controllers SIMATIC-7 are installed here instead of SIMATIC-S5. The modernization made it possible to ensure the interchangeability of equipment and make the production of wire rod at the sixth mill reliable and uninterrupted. The control system of the electric drive of the wire block of the mill has also been updated.

The installation and commissioning of the equipment was carried out by specialists from Primetals Technologies Ukraine together with a team of designers and production workers of the enterprise.

- Today SIMATIC 7 controllers are the most powerful programmable logic controllers. The mill is equipped with a new visualization system and software. The control posts now have modern monitors, which reflect in more detail all the information about the mill's work. This is a plus for operators. The updated automation system significantly reduces the risks of unplanned mill downtime. The rolling stock here is made from high-quality billets produced at the continuous casting machine, therefore the mill's productivity is important in the marketing strategy of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.
