Interpipe has certified the premium sleeveless UPJ-F connection at CAL IV

The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has certified its own premium sleeveless connection Interpipe UPJ-F for compliance with the international standard ISO 13679 CAL IV (Connection Application Level).

In general, it took the Company about a year to develop, master, test and certify a new product. This is the second premium-class connection with the highest level of gas tightness developed by Interpipe. Earlier, the UPJ-M (Ukrainian Premium Joint) coupling was mastered.

UPJ-F is a sleeveless connection, that is, the sleeve part of the thread is cut on the inside of the pipe body. The absence of a coupling allows the use of products with such a thread when running the string into a well with a reduced borehole diameter, for example, in the last part of the production string of deep wells.

Sleeveless joints are also used as hidden columns in complex areas. For example, when there is a risk of soil crumbling, with a large distance between the intermediate and production casing, it is necessary to run another additional casing, which is called "secret". In such a situation, it is often not possible to use pipes with a sleeve connection - they will not pass between the existing columns, taking into account the dimensions and necessary tolerances. In such cases, pipes with a sleeveless joint are used to cover a complex section.

Prototypes of UPJ-F casing were cut at the Company's facilities and tested in an independent laboratory in Germany.

- The premium UPJ-F connection has a unique design: double gas-tight seal, negative thread angle and grease pocket. The absence of a sleeve makes it easier to run pipes into wells with a large curvature angle, as well as in horizontal sections.

In addition, sleeveless pipes can be used for sidetracking in existing wells. The use of such products as liners in sidetracks reduces the required sidetrack diameter and, as a result, makes drilling cheaper and faster. The UPJ-F's metal-to-metal sealing element allows this thread to be used in gas and gas condensate wells.
