According to statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported about 743,000 tons of iron ore in July, down 39% year on year. Among them, Brazil was the largest supplier with 243,000 tons, down 61% year on year. South Africa supplied about 167,000 tons, up from zero last July; Sweden supplied about 165,000 tons, down 45% year on year.
From January to July, total iron ore imports totaled about 6.2 million tonnes, up 2% year on year. Brazil and Sweden were the two leading countries.
In addition, Turkey imported about 1.83 million tons of scrap metal in July, which is 4% lower than the same period last year.
