Dnipro Steel Works (DMKD), a Ukrainian billet producer, recently made an official announcement as the global steel market remained slow and weak, the corporation decided to close part of its production capacity and 2 more blast furnaces.
DMKD mentioned that they will close blast furnaces No. 9 and No. 12, which will have a capacity of 800,000 tons and 900,000 tons of pig iron. In addition, DMKD will also continue to close two facilities with 2.4 million tonnes and 1.7 million tonnes respectively from this summer.
In addition, continuous casting machines No. 1 and 3 will be closed, with a capacity of 2.4 million tons and 1.7 million tons, respectively.
DMKD did not explain further whether the decision would affect future production plans, but the market believed the corporation could focus on iron production at low costs.
