In the first eight months of this year, pig iron and steel production increased by 55.51 million tonnes, mostly consumed domestically, as net exports fell 952,000 tonnes from a year earlier, according to CISA data. About two-thirds of the increase in production went to construction.
CISA data also showed that in January-August, China produced about 665 million tons of steel, which is 9.1% more than in the same period last year. Production at CISA plants rose 5.91%, while production at non-CISA plants increased by 19.38% YoY.
