The aggregate production of crude steel for the initial nine-month period of the current year amounted to 76.016 million tons.
Production data published by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) show a marked decline in crude steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region in September this year. The regional issue reported a 2.6% decline from the previous year. Production was 7.995 million tonnes in September 2019, when compared to 8.209 million tonnes in the same month a year earlier.
Russia has become the leading steel producer in the region. The volume of Russian production reached 5.575 million tons, which is approximately 70% of the total production in the region. Production in September 19 in the country decreased by 4.1% from 5.812 million tons in September 2018. Meanwhile, Ukrainian products also recorded a slight decrease of 2.3% during the year from 1.778 million tons to 1.745 million tons. Kazakhstan, the third largest regional steel producer, increased production by 15.5% year on year. The monthly production of crude steel by other countries in the region is as follows: Belarus (220,000 tons), Uzbekistan (60,000 tons) and Moldova (35,000 tons).

Crude steel production in the region was 76.122 million tonnes from January to September 2018. All countries except Belarus and Ukraine reported an annualized decline in production. Moldova reported a sharp decline in production by 28.6%.
The largest steel producers in the CIS region in January-September 19 were Russia (53.775 million tons), Ukraine (16.400 million tons) and Kazakhstan (3.090 million tons).
