Nippon Steel Corporation has facilitated the integration and reorganization of some steel plants and the establishment of cooperation measures between steel plants in order to increase competitiveness. The company has now decided to make these changes across all smelters as part of an organizational and operational review. The restructuring will ensure progress in manufacturing capabilities and increased autonomy and efficiency in manufacturing jobs.
The main details are as follows:
1. The Kashima Rod and Wire Rod Plant and the Naoetsu Titanium Plant will be merged and reorganized to match the plant in East Japan.
2. The Wakayama Plant, the Amagasaki Pipe and Pipe Plant and the Osaka Metallurgical Plant of Railway, Automotive and Machinery Equipment will be merged and reorganized into the Kansai Plant.
3. Hirohata will be integrated with Nippon Steel's Kure, Sakai Works, Toyo Works and Osaka factories. Nisshin Co Ltd, which is scheduled to merge with Nippon Steel in April 2020, will be transformed into the Setouchi plant.
4. The Yawata, Oita and Hikari Titanium plants producing the titanium block will be merged and reorganized into the Kyushu plant.
5. Muroran Bar and Wire Plant will be renamed.
The aforementioned five steel plants and the Nagoya plant will include Nippon Steel's organization of six steel plants.
