According to a report by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the export of sheet metal products from Turkey in September fell by 21.8% compared with a year earlier, amounting to about 394,000 tons.
The main reason for the fall was due to weak demand in the EU in June and July.
Moreover, the European Commission (EC) also announced on 26 September that the existing safeguards for 26 categories of steel products will be revised.
After the revision, a 30 percent quota was set for those countries that exported hot rolled steel to the EU, and this would severely restrict the export of hot rolled steel to Turkey after the launch of this policy, as the EU was the main export market for Turkish flat steel.
