Steel production in Japan has been steadily declining since July, reaching a fourth-month low in October. Steel production in October fell to 8.16 million tonnes, down 4.9% year on year, as some factories remained closed due to typhoons and fires.
Nippon Steel Corp, Japan's largest steelmaker, closed one of two steel plants at the Kimitsu Metallurgical Complex in September, which will resume operations at the end of December.
Nippon Steel has also closed its Hiroshima Kur plant since late August. In addition, Japanese steel companies have struggled in the current tough market conditions caused by the US-China trade conflict, rising raw material prices and falling steel prices in Asia.
