The European Commission (EC) has announced a new investigation into China's changing steel export grades to evade anti-dumping (AD) duties.
These modifications included adding a thin oil coating to the products or increasing the carbon, aluminum and titanium content.
The EU said Chinese manufacturers had no other economic reason to change products other than to dodge AD tariffs, which began in 2018.
The EU has imposed anti-dumping duties ranging from 17.2% to 27.9% on some corrosion-resistant steels from China from February 2018 to respond to unfair competition at low prices. Companies included Hesteel, Jiangsu Shagang Group, and Shougang Group companies.
