The American Iron and Steel Institute announced that for the week ended December 21, 2019, domestic steel production was 1,866,000 tonnes, while capacity utilization was 80.7%. For the week ended December 21, 2018, production stood at 1,861,000 tonnes, while capacity utilization was 79.4 percent.
Production this week increased by 0.3 percent over the same period last year. Production for the week ending December 21, 2019 was up 1.2 percent from the previous week ended December 14, 2019, when production was 1,844,000 net tonnes and capacity utilization was 79.7%.
Adjusted annual production as at 21 December 2019 was 94,450,000 tonnes at a capacity utilization rate of 80.1 percent.
