The Philippine Induction Smelting Industry Association (PISIA) has presented the Induction Furnace (IF) technology for steel making to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Makati City. The presentation highlighted the benefits of using IF for steelmaking in terms of equipment performance, energy consumption, cost, environmental protection, and pollution prevention and control.
IF is used to melt cast iron, steel, copper, aluminum and other precious metals by heating an electrical induction object, in this case a furnace, with electromagnetic induction. Due to the absence of electric arcs or electric gas bursting during heating and melting, IF is able to produce steel and alloy with low carbon and occluded gases without affecting quality. Once melted, the high frequency magnetic field can be used to stir hot metal, making the process clean and free of contamination.
