Primetals Technologies creates new steel plant in China

To comply with environmental regulations and improve production, HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co Ltd has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for a new steel wire rod plant in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, People's Republic of China. The plant, which is relocating from outside Shijiazhuang City due to environmental regulations, will use Morgan's high-performance Reducing Sizing Mill technology to thermomechanically roll larger diameter products. The launch is expected at the end of 2020. The new plant will provide improved tolerances and mechanical properties for high quality carbon steel products.

The plant will have a capacity of 400,000 tons per year and is designed for a speed of 115 meters per second. Bars ranging from 5 to 25 millimeters in steel grades, including alloy construction, bearing, spring, free cut, tire cord, welding wire, cold rolled quality and tool steel, will be made from billets of 200 millimeters and 150 millimeters.

HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., based in Shijiazhuang, produces high quality carbon steels, spring steels and bearing steels for automotive, cold work, welding wire and rope. The company is a subsidiary of HBIS Group Co Ltd, which was founded in 2008. The company also acquired a bar mill from Primetals Technologies, which is in operation and not part of the move. HBIS Group has several Primetals Technologies valve manufacturing facilities in Handan and Xuan Hua.
