Production of crude steel by the countries of the world represented by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) fell significantly in June this year. Monthly production data show that the output of the 64 countries that submitted data to the association fell significantly, by almost 7%, compared to the previous year. These countries accounted for almost 99% of global crude steel production in 2019.
World steel production in June 2020 was 148.295 million tonnes, up from 159.541 million tonnes in the same month a year earlier.
Chinese steelmaking was able to record a small jump in production, while all other major producing countries experienced a sharp decline in production. The country, whose production volume amounted to 91.579 million tons, accounted for almost 62% of world steel production.
