Reconstruction of the sinter plant is nearing completion at the Illichivsk Metallurgical Combine

Ilyich Iron and Steel Works in Mariupol is close to completing one of the largest environmental projects in the history of independent Ukraine - the reconstruction of an agglomeration plant. Italian specialists arrived on site to install the software and conduct cold and hot tests of the dust removal equipment. Metinvest Group's investments in the project amounted to over USD 150 million. Despite the pandemic, Metinvest Group continued to implement its key environmental project, including the construction and installation of a new two-stage gas cleaning system at the sintering site of 12 sintering machines at Steel im. Ilyich. The first stage of cleaning includes rough dust removal with modern Italian HURRICLONE cyclones. At the second stage, the gas is additionally cleaned of dust and sulfur compounds in large-capacity bag filters,

The installation of the software was originally scheduled for the first quarter of this year, but the coronavirus pandemic forced Italian specialists to leave Ukraine in early spring, while equipment requiring further configuration was still in the installation phase.

However, thanks to the easing of quarantine measures, Italian specialists were able to return to the completion of the project. According to Andrea Fontolan, Customer Service Engineer at TERMOKIMIK CORPORATION SpA, the remaining work includes installing the software, checking the installation for compliance with the technical documentation and commissioning the equipment, as well as fixing any problems with the equipment.
