The Russian metallurgical company NLMK Group, which claims to be the largest steel producer in Russia and one of the most efficient in the world, has taken on the role of a strategic partner of GreenTech Startup Booster (GTSB), Russia's first accelerator of green startups.
Sergey Chebotarev, Vice President of NLMK Group for Energy and Environment, took part in the launch of the GTSB, organized by the Skolkovo Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia.
GTSB is tasked with finding and implementing innovative solutions in the field of environment and sustainable development. The project is open to companies that have technologies /products aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as improving the efficiency of water treatment plants and waste recycling. Projects should be in the final stages of development.
The GTSB will help businesses, research centers and developers promote innovative green technologies and reduce the time to market for promising ideas.
The booster is designed for 500 technology startups, of which 30 best participants reached the final. The finalists will be offered the opportunity to further develop pilot projects at sites provided by the industrial partners of the program, including the NLMK Group.
NLMK Group is already implementing a number of innovative environmental projects aimed at strengthening monitoring of environmental parameters and reducing the carbon footprint of production activities. Participation in the Skolkovo project, NLMK Group claims, will allow the company to significantly expand its pool of green projects and find new and effective environmental solutions to meet current challenges in air and water protection, disposal of by-products and decarbonization.
NLMK's steel production capacity exceeds 17 million tonnes per year.
