Voestalpine Metal Engineering Division produces high quality steels at its Donavitz plant for processing into special rails for railway infrastructure, high quality wires for the automotive industry and high quality seamless pipes for oil and gas exploration. The launch of a new fully automated continuous casting plant will enable the Group to further improve the quality of steel grades used in the production of high-tech end products. The state-of-the-art facility represents an investment of around 90 million euros and has an annual production capacity of one million tons.
The new CC4 continuous casting machine at the Donavitz plant, replacing existing equipment that has been in operation for more than 40 years, enables voestalpine to immediately begin producing steels of even higher purity with optimal surface properties. Therefore, cracks caused by extreme stresses on the rail surface, for example, can be prevented by using homogeneous material structures.
CC4 is a new steel production center in Donawitz that fully complies with all Industry 4.0 standards. This allows you to fully automate the production, transportation and loading of flowers.
The plant is dedicated to the production of a wide range of products, including rail steel, seamless pipe and cold forming steel, and ultra-pure ball bearings and spring steel. Fully automated temperature control ensures optimal hardening conditions, and a large number of electromagnetic stirrers guarantee absolute homogeneity of the material structure. The CC4 achieves casting speeds of up to 1.7 meters per minute and an annual production capacity of one million tons.
The Railway Systems Division of the Metalworking Division of the voestalpine Group is the global market leader in railway infrastructure systems and signal technology.
