The EU has said it is considering levying carbon charges on imported products, including rolled steel, that pollute the environment. Taxable products include steel, cement and electricity, and this range may expand to aluminum products in the future.
The measure is part of the EU's goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2050, which aims to protect local industries from cheap imports with lax environmental standards.
The EU planned to offer this policy next summer and the first targeted products with low international trade turnover.
According to the EU, least developed countries (LDCs) and countries with carbon emissions policies comparable to EU regulations will be excluded from these policies.
