According to Worldsteel, for 9 months of this year, metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world produced 1,028,860,000 tons of pig iron, of which 966,880,000 tons by the blast furnace method and 61980000 tons by the direct reduction method. This is 2.58% lower than the indicator for the same period in 2019 (1,056,150,000 tons).
The first place belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists produced 665 480 000 tons of pig iron in January-September 2020, which is 3.80% more than in 9 months of 2019 (570 050 000 tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production for 9 months of 2020 is 64.7%.
The positions of other leading countries have not changed
Ukraine (15,170,000 tons or 98.0% compared to January-September 2019) ranks 9th among 40 countries that produce pig iron.
The decline in global pig iron production was primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
World steel production for 9 months of 2020 is 1,347,440,000 tons, which is 3.22% less than in January-September 2019 (1392,250,000 tons).
The leader here is also the People's Republic of China, smelted 781,590,000 tons, which is 4.47% more than in 9 months of 2019 (748,140,000 tons). The PRC's share in world steel production is 58.0%.
Turkey (25,930,000 tons or 102.6% compared to the same period in 2019) moved up to 7th place, moving Germany (25,730,000 tons or 84.3%) to 8th position.
The positions of other leading countries have not changed.
Ukraine (15,330,000 tons or 93.5% compared to January-September 2019) ranks 13th among 62 steel-producing countries.
