A shortage of steel, especially coil products, remains in the Czech Republic. Plants are increasing delivery times, which in turn leads to limited market availability. Permanent distribution in the first quarter for spot buyers has practically disappeared.
While demand has increased due to restocking by shareholders and distributors, buyers are wary of placing forward orders due to renewed Covid-19 cases. Despite the seeming weakening of confidence, the IHS Markit Czech Republic manufacturing PMI rose 1.2 points in October. Steel demand from the automotive and construction sectors remains strong.
Prices in the Czech Republic for flat products, in particular for cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized coils, continued to rise. It looks like they will continue to grow in the coming weeks as local businesses increase their offerings.
