Metinvest doubles investment in the reconstruction of mill 1700 at the Ilyich plant

In the sheet-rolling shop "1700" MMK im. Ilyich, the next stage of the rolling mill reconstruction is nearing completion. As of today, according to the press service of the plant, a new hydraulic coiler for winding 32-ton hot-rolled coils has been installed.

In this project, the Dutch mining and metallurgical holding Metinvest B.V. (Metinvest) has invested over $ 30 million. The new hydraulic coiler can work with a strip up to 16 mm thick and up to 1600 mm wide and provides an order of magnitude higher winding density of coils, an increase in their outer diameter up to 2060 mm and a weight up to 32 tons. The new unit can reel coils at speeds up to 20 meters per second, and its capacity is up to 2.5 million tonnes of rolled steel per year.

Initially, it was planned to invest $ 18 million in the project, but a decision was made on additional funding to make the industrial complex as modern and practical as possible and improve the quality of products.

In addition to the installation of the coiler itself, MetinvestEngineering specialists built an additional control room for the hydraulic pumping station, oil basement and booster pumping station to provide the unit with the required water pressure. All auxiliary hydraulics, lubrication and power supply systems were installed. The electrical equipment was installed in the overhauled room of the turbine room No. 2. We also installed fire alarms and security fences, installed new networks and structures for water supply, sewerage, heat and gas supply.

To work with the new equipment, Metinvest Mariupol employees underwent additional training and have already started hot commissioning work, adjusting the coiler parameters for various product ranges.
