Russian steelmaker Severstal has signed a contract with Italian steelmaker Danieli to install a new section mill at its main production facility in Cherepovets. The launch of the new production was scheduled for the end of 2022.
It was clear that the current capacity of the company for the production of long products is about 2 million tons, and the production of billets is only about 1 million tons.
In addition, this new production line can produce 1 million tons of 5.5-32mm wire and rod per year, and 8-16mm diameter hardened rebar. It was expected that this new production line would eventually replace some of Severstal's long products plants.
