India's leading steel producer Tata Steel has partnered with the CII Green Business Center and other stakeholders in the steel industry to develop a new GreenPro framework for steel bars. This is the first of its kind in the country and is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the steel sector.
The structure offers an Ecolabel program to help end users select steel products with the lowest environmental impact. By the way, the products with the GreenPro label are manufactured according to the highest quality standards.
GreenPro products are also recognized in the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Building Rating System. To date, more than 125 manufacturing companies have adopted the GreenPro Ecolabel for 1800 building materials available on the market.
K.S. CII's Venkatagiri noted that the implementation of green measures by rerolling steel plants and producers will lead to a market transformation of steel production and consumption in the country. In the meantime, Tata Steel's Sanjeev Paul said the company intends to take the lead in implementing environmental measures across all of its products as early as possible. GreenPro fittings are a step forward towards a sustainable future.
