ArcelorMittal AM /NS India has applied for environmental permits to expand its smelter from 9.6 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum to 14 million tonnes of liquid steel in the Hazira Notified Industrial Zone, Surat District, Gujarat.
“Our long-term production targets of 12 to 15 million tons of annual production are still in place. In the short term, the focus will be on eliminating bottlenecks in our existing operations so that we can increase our annual production to approximately 8.5 million tonnes, ”Chairman Aditya Mittal told his colleagues on the occasion of the company's anniversary celebration.
The proposed expansion project will include production of 4.08 million tonnes of steel per year and 6 million tonnes of hot rolled steel (HRC) per year. The additional crude steel required to produce 6 million tonnes per year of HRC will come in the form of 2.04 million tonnes of slabs per year at the existing plant.
AMNS also plans to expand its manufacturing capacity and expand its capacity to manufacture higher value-added automotive products, as well as introduce other high-value products from the ArcelorMittal portfolio. He signed a MOU with POSCO Maharashtra Steel for Rs 5,000 for the supply of hot rolled coils (HRC).
