Steelmaker Metalloinvest announced that blast furnace # 2 of its subsidiary, Ural Steel, was officially commissioned last December after being upgraded with a production capacity of 2,000 tonnes of pig iron per day and a maximum capacity of 760,000 tonnes. cast iron per year.
It is planned that the reconstruction of blast furnace No. 3 will begin in February 2021.
Metalloinvest CEO Nazim Efendiev said the blast furnace modernization project could help reduce coke consumption, thereby lowering costs and lowering carbon emissions, as well.
Blast furnace # 2 will be fully loaded by the end of this year, and total pig iron production is expected to rise to 2.7 million tonnes, of which commercial pig iron production will reach 1.5 million tonnes.
