ArcelorMittal Launches XCarb Initiatives to Support the Drive for Low Carbon Steel Manufacturing. Green certifications, low-carbon scrap steel and a carbon-free technology development fund will be respected. Poland has a role to play in this activity - Polish factories are beginning to test the use of hydrogen-rich coke oven gases in blast furnaces.
ArcelorMittal represents the global XCarb brand for mild steel and is mobilizing funds to expand its production. At the moment, "green steel" accounts for 1 percent of the group's production, but soon this percentage is expected to reach 10 percent.
At Dбbrowa Gornicza, coke oven gas from Zdzieszowice will be fed to blast furnaces. Currently, preparations for the construction of a gas pipeline between the plants are coming to an end.
XCarb is a sign that connects initiative and low-carbon products. Special certificates will be introduced for steel produced from raw materials with a low coal content. The labeling of steel obtained from scrap metal and recycled using energy from renewable sources, as well as an innovation fund, have been developed.
