EVRAZ NTMK implements 3D technologies in the repair of the main metallurgical equipment. Purchased 3D scanners and printers enable 3D scanning and 3D printing of parts.
The Creaform HandyScan scanner has already been introduced into production at EVRAZ NTMK. Engineers use it to create 3D models of parts. They are then loaded into automated programmed lathes to make exact replicas. A large library of virtual models will gradually be created, which will replace the classic drawings. The range of applications is wide: the plant manufactures parts for coke-chemical, blast-furnace and converter industries, rolling and auxiliary shops.
In the first half of 2021, the plant will receive two 3D printers, which will print models for forms used as templates in the manufacture of large-sized products. Three-dimensional printing of metal parts is planned for several years. At the same time, it is not planned to completely abandon lathes, new technologies will complement the previous ones, increase productivity and reduce the cost of parts.
The digitalization of business processes and the transition to additive technologies are an opportunity to increase production efficiency and reduce costs, including for equipment repairs.
