Rusal, the world's second largest aluminum producer, reportedly said its US division has shipped more than 25,000 tonnes of aluminum for shipments to North America. Similar performance is forecast for the remainder of the year in the coming months and will hit an annual record for the region.
Rusal believes that the US economic recovery will support growing demand for goods that require aluminum, including beer cans, window frames and recreational vehicles.
Alcoa Corp, one of the world's largest manufacturers, said it forecasts a significant recovery in global demand. The base price of the LME is up 15% this year, the best start since 2017.
There is still some uncertainty in the US aluminum market. General Motors Co. said it would extend shutdowns at some plants in North America due to semiconductor shortages.
Rusal made record aluminum shipments to the USA in March
