To get rid of the label of a climate hypocrite, the EU is trying to change the rules on waste disposal, and also includes steel and other scrap metal in this category. Some recycling companies are protesting against harmful trade restrictions. Steel producers emphasize that instead of getting rid of valuable raw materials (not waste), that is, scrap from the EU, we must protect our market, as other countries do.
There is much less scrap in the world than the steel industry requires, hence the active international trade in this raw material.
Turkey remains the world leader in scrap imports. However, this year China also began to purchase these raw materials.
Last year, the export of scrap from Poland to Turkey doubled.
