The European Commission announced the extension of protective measures for 26 categories of rolled metal produced by foreign metallurgical enterprises and entering the EU. The measures in the form of tariff quotas will apply from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024.
The size of quotas will increase by 3% annually. If a region or country exhausts its quarterly quota, they can access the remaining total quota determined for this category of metal products. Once the quota has been exhausted, an additional 25% duty rate is applied.
For the first time, measures to protect the interests of EU metallurgists were introduced in July 2018 - in response to a 25% US steel duty. Extension applications were submitted by 12 EU steelmaking countries.
Protective measures extended to EU metallurgists for 3 years
