EVRAZ North America announced the start of construction of a new railway products plant in Pueblo. The $ 500 million investment project is expected to be completed in late 2022 or early 2023. The proposed facility is a state-of-the-art railway production facility, the construction of which is expected to create about 800 jobs. It will also consume about 7,000 tons of steel, a large volume of concrete and rebar produced at Poublo.
When fully operational, the mill will offer around 300 jobs in the region, according to David Ferriman, senior vice president of Pueblo's North American division at EVRAZ. The plant, capable of producing long rail sections, will offer rail segments of a length currently only offered by steel mills in Asia, making it competitive with overseas steel producers, he added.
The new mill, equipped with the latest technology, will replace the existing rail mill. The plant is being built with the support of the state and local authorities. The huge solar farms that are being built at the steel mill will power the railway factory. Nearly 1,800 solar panels will turn steel, power the railway plant. Nearly 1,800 solar farms will transform the steel mill into the greenest steel production in the entire North American region.
